The Journey
Immerse yourself in an unforgettable and unique adventure, combining two very special countries. Unlike other more well-known destinations, the Central African Republic and Chad remain hidden gems, offering a rare opportunity to explore untouched territories, with wild nature and extraordinary encounters. A rare journey of its kind that combines three exceptional biotopes unique in all of Africa: the Central African Forest Biotope, the Sudanese Savannah Biotope and the Southern Sahara Biotope in Chad.

An expert-led safari that promises a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with extraordinary encounters in some of Africa’s few pristine areas.
Your journey begins with a flight from Bangui to Dzanga-Sangha, where the breathtaking beauty of the forest awaits you.
Over the next few days, you will explore the nature of the biodiverse National Park, getting up close to its wild animals immersed in lush vegetation.
The safari continues by flying to the Chadian savannah and Zakouma National Park, where you will spend a few more days in a very different environment from the previous one, not only geographically but also with its own history of conservation success: a savannah rich in mammals, birds and tree species. Exploring the vast plains and winding rivers of Zakouma, you will have the opportunity to see large herds of elephants, discover big cats during night walks and immerse yourself in the diverse birdlife of the park. This exceptional journey ends by moving, always by plane, from the savannah to the wild beauty of the Ennedi Sahara in the northeast of the country, where everything will change: the vegetation of the forest and the savannah is replaced by imposing rock formations sculpted by time into towers, cathedrals and natural arches, pristine sand dunes, proud nomads everywhere and an exciting prehistory told on the walls of the many rock shelters.
This exceptional trip is led by two professional guides, Rocco Ravà and Will Bolsover, who will help you learn about and appreciate these unique ecosystems of Central Africa and Chad and the need to protect them for future generations. An expertly guided safari that promises a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with extraordinary encounters in some of the few pristine areas of Africa.

Dzanga– Sangha National Park
Located in the far south-western corner of the country, between Cameroon and Congo, Dzanga-Sangha National Park is the main natural attraction of the Central African Republic, which, due to its uniqueness, is reserved only for experienced travellers. This natural jewel is one of the best preserved forest biotopes not only on the African continent but on the entire planet.

Home to some of the last remaining pristine rainforest in the Central African Republic, the lush Dzanga-Sangha National Park is a sanctuary for endangered wildlife
The park is home to an extraordinary array of biodiversity, home to some of Africa’s rarest and most difficult-to-see animals: here, in the thick of the forest, small clearings, called bai, open up, where lowland gorillas, small forest elephants, chimpanzees, the very rare bongo, rare pangolins and thousands of colourful birds can be seen every day by the very few and passionate travellers who make it this far.
In these pristine landscapes and in its dense forests largely unexplored, still live some tribes of Ba’Aka pygmies, a people capable of living with nature, respecting it and benefiting from it at the same time. It is with them that the conservation project of this territory is moving forward. The rainforest inside the Dzanga-Sangha National Park offers explorers an equatorial climate without pronounced summers or winters, which means that there are opportunities for travel throughout the year.
Sangha Lodge
Date: 1st – 5th February
Nestled on the banks of the Sangha River and surrounded by lush riverine trees, this hidden gem is the gateway to the unspoiled wilderness of Dzanga National Park.
Sangha Lodge has seven charming en- suite bungalows offering modern comforts in the midst of the wilderness. You will enjoy the luxury of hot and cold running water and the convenience of private toilets in this remote setting. The lodge is managed with the aim of promoting sustainable tourism, focusing on local community involvement and development.

Sangha Lodge is the perfect base for exploring Dzanga National Park
home to Dzanga Bai, a true natural pearl: a large clearing in the heart of the rainforest whose vegetation is enriched by minerals from underground volcanic rocks. Here forest elephants, making their way between water buffalo and rare sitatunga antelopes, gather in large numbers to quench their thirst with these precious mineral waters that flow from the ground and that they cannot find elsewhere in the rainforest vegetation.
Experience the tranquility and natural beauty of Sangha Lodge as you immerse yourself in the wilderness wonders of Central Africa.

Zakouma National Park
Zakouma National Park is today one of the last examples of a “Sahelo-Sudanese” ecosystem in this part of Africa. In the past, Zakouma National Park faced significant challenges such as poaching, habitat destruction and conflicts with local communities.

The protection measures implemented since 1989 and the good maintenance of local ecosystems have allowed a spectacular recovery of the local fauna: elephants, buffalo, antelopes, big cats, giraffes today abound on the plains of Zakouma. Since 2010, thanks to the efforts of African Parks, an NGO that manages several national parks in Africa, the park has undergone a remarkable transformation: the elephant population in the park has increased from a few hundred to over 6,000 today, making Zakouma one of the most remarkable conservation success stories in Africa.
The Zakouma ecosystem today constitutes the principal safe haven for wildlife in the Sudano-Sahelian zone of Central and West Africa, offering the animal-loving traveler a wildlife experience unparalleled on the African continent.
Tinga Camp
Date: 6th – 10th February
Tinga Camp is located on the banks of the Tinga River, surrounded by towering tamarind trees.

The camp is in the heart of a great game viewing area, and to explore this beautiful park
It consists of 24 chalets with en-suite facilities, mosquito nets and ceiling fans. Tinga’s main communal area is comfortable and offers beautiful views of the surrounding bushland, and is the ideal place to relax, watch the surrounding monkeys and birds or walk a short distance to hidden animal hideouts.
The camp is in the heart of a great game viewing area, and to explore this beautiful park, you will take day and night game drives in open 4×4 vehicles, as well as walking tours. A visit to the local community market adjacent to the Park is also a highlight of a stay in Zakouma.

Ennedi natural and cultural reserve
The Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve is located in the southern Sahara in northeastern Chad and covers an area of 19,305 square miles. It is a natural masterpiece of Paleozoic sandstone that forms a landscape sculpted into domes, cathedrals, natural arches, mushroom rocks, enormous labyrinths and natural gueltes.

Visiting Ennedi really means exploring one of the least visited corners of the entire Sahara by tourists
Labeled the “Eden of the Sahara”, the reserve is located within the Ennedi Massif, a mountain refuge declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2016 for its unique natural formations and rock art of global importance. Caves and shelters abound throughout, many decorated with rock paintings or engravings, dating back to different periods spanning the entire Holocene, from 10,000 years ago to more recent times. The fauna you have just encountered in the Zakouma Park is found entirely painted or scratched on the walls of the Ennedi, evidence of the prehistoric savannahs in this geographical area which has now become the Sahara.
Today, despite the hostile climate and environment, the Tubu nomadic community is more alive and active than ever, distributed throughout the region: it depends on the natural resources present here, in a desert environment among the most lively in the whole Sahara.
Visiting Ennedi really means exploring one of the least visited corners of the entire Sahara by tourists.
Warda Camp
Date: 11st – 16th February
The constant search for new experiences and the incurable passion for travel led to the discovery of this breathtaking sandstone fortress.

After many years of fieldwork, the dream became reality, also thanks to the desire to respect this fragile ecosystem
Warda Camp embodies our commitment to sustainable tourism, which takes into account both the fragility of the Saharan environment and the conditions of the local populations, the Tubu and other nomadic peoples.
Warda is a first class tented camp, with 9 spacious tents with private bathroom with toilet and hot shower. The goal is to offer the traveler who comes to Warda, peace and relaxation in full harmony with the territory. With daily excursions, you will visit the most important places in the heart of Ennedi, from Aloba the second largest natural arch in the world, to the canyon and guelta of Archei, where some specimens of Saharan crocodile survive; from the natural labyrinth of Oyo to the fascinating sandy expanses of Bichagara. All with painted pages of prehistory that almost every day overlook your excursions.
The spectacular landscapes discovered in more than 30 years of exploratory travels in Chad, the strong bonds woven with the local people, and the growing feeling that there is still much to discover in these places have led to the creation of Warda and the conscious choice to put down even deeper roots in this territory that, if apparently arid and inhospitable, is certainly still virgin and intact.

Rocco Ravà

At the helm of Spazi d’Avventura, which his father founded in 1977, Rocco Ravà is a Milanese nomad born in Italy but raised in the deserts of Africa, with a childhood spent throughout the Sahara, from Mauritania to Niger, Algeria and Chad. Numerous are the “first” explorations carried out in various areas of Niger and Chad, on foot and off-road, and numerous are the rock art sites identified by Rocco during his travels. He was able to evaluate the great naturalistic and cultural potential of the Ennedi and was instrumental in establishing the region as a protected area for wildlife and culture.
Positive and determined, as a team leader he is behind almost all travel projects, from planning to implementation in the field. Passionate and competent professional, he will always find a solution, maintaining calm and clarity of mind. Traveling with him is easy because his confidence and naturalness in the desert immediately instill a deep sense of security in the traveler.
Will Bolsover

At the front of Natural World Safaris, founder and CEO Will Bolsover frequently heads out on recce trips. Some destinations he knows well from years of experience, but he revisits them regularly to connect with the region’s specialists: scientists, naturalists, and some of the best adventure guides in the world. In other destinations these trips pioneer the way, exploring to the very end of the road to untangle the complexity of travel in new, and often seldom visited regions.
Will has been recognised by Condé Nast Traveler for multiple years as one of the world’s top go-to people in the travel industry for inside knowledge and access to exclusive wildlife encounters around the globe. This recognition was consolidated by Travel + Leisure who recognised him as one of the top travel fixers in the business, making him one of their A-Listers.
Rocco and Will have been friends for many years and share the same vision of exploration and conservation travel. They have undertaken several remote adventures together and this unique itinerary is the result of a fireside conversation about conservation and stewardship of Chadian and Central African Republic heritage that they shared in 2023
